RNAS / RAF Predannack - Disposal Aircraft

Over the Easter Holidays I've always want to go down to Predannack airfield to look at one of many favorite aircraft of the RAF which is the Canberra and the Harrier. On that day Me and my Mum went down to visit Predannack airfield on a beautiful sunny, cloudy day which it would be best to take photographs of the wrecks near the coastal path. Predannack Airfield is loacated near Mullion on Cornwall's Lizard Peninsula. The runways are operated by the Royal Navy and today it is used as a satellite airfield and relief landing ground for nearby RNAS Culdrose also the Air Training Corps mostly uses it aswell and it's also a Satellite airfield for RNAS Culdrose. The aircraft down there are used for the Fire schools and RNAS Culdrose, I call that area the "Fire Zone".

While I was down there it became clear that no unothorised personal must not enter the airfield without premission from Helston Council or RNAS Culdrose. So we found another way onto the airfield by finding the overgrown crash gates on the outskirts of the airfield or a old footpath. Once we got to the point where we saw a gate which has an old overgrown drive way that leads to a platform which could be a building of some sort and from there I saw the wrecks of a few Harrier's and Wessex helicopters and one Canberra.

This was the route we took to get onto the airfield which got alot muddyer, then we came to a small checkpoint building which could be the crash gate entrance.

Once we went pass the checkpoint we came toward a wire fence and a great view of the a Canberra and a RN Sea King. We followed the fence to another gate that lead onto the open tarmac where the wrecks are which we had to go through alot of mud to get to the other side, then is started to get hot!

British Aerospace Canberra a jet bomber with RAF training colours, surounded by dead plants and bushes.

Once we got near the open tarmac we were near a Harrier trainer Variant which was the closest even a Dominie T.1 was on our letf but too far to get to, even I don't want to get caught by any MP's or patrols in the area. But there were gliders taking off and landing over our heads and they could report our position that's why I must act quicky to get the shoots I wanted.

A trainer type harrier T.4 sitting on it's own near our position.

A Dominie T.1 and a RN Sea King in the background.

A Grob Viking just took of from the airfield flying over.

Once we got onto the open tarmac we were near really near the T.4 trainer type harrier and some fuel grounds which was a bit dangerous to get close to. Then Mum waited outside away from the fuel grounds were she's safe as for me I went in and took these shots.

A close up angle of the T.4 Harrier with full light blue skies.

A portside view of the T.4 Harrier with a shark or tiger face attached to the nose.

My favorite shot of the aircraft taken at near the nose.

Another shot of the aircraft taken from the front which makes it look like one of my older images from RNAS Culdrose - B+W.

After taking shots of the aircraft I thought I saw a fire truck heading into the "Fire Zone" which I was taking shoots in so me and my mum got out of the "Fire Zone" but I did I also shot a area of the fire dummies and we went back the way we came towards the crash gate, then we got lost. But then I saw a sign further down the drive way.

The image of the Fire Dummies within the "Fire Zone".

Once we got here the arrow on the sign leads to the coastal path wich we don't want to go so we checked the map and saw this overgrowned drive way that acturly leads to the checkpoint and out the way we came.

Final Prints and Modified Images

For the National Photography course and the White Space Project I have worked a modified the images I want to go up in the gallery at Truro College on the 7th June 2010 over the Kenwyn building. The images will be modified on Photoshop CS2 and Printed on A3 Lustre paper and might be printed out on A2 size paper in Colour or B+W.

The Canberra will be modified with -12% light and +12% contrast to make the image alot better.

The same image of the Canberra also a Re-creation of the aircraft.

The image of the Harrier T.4 variant which has been modified with +12% light and +15% contrast it may look darker under the wings but I think it looks great.

This image has been modified with -12% light and +15% contrast which look almost like a poster or a post card.

The harrier taken from the front will also be in Grayscale and has been modified with +5% light and +5% constrast which also look as it was taken years ago.

So there you have it all my work of the Aviation is done or incomplete unitl any further aircraft will be shot by Canon or Fuji SLR digital camera's. I hope next time I will ask for premission.
